Manchester exhibition 'The First Cut'

Had an amazing time in Manchester last week with the Applied Arts crew!

Saw a beautiful exhibition in Manchester Art Gallery called The First Cut.
Artists were exhibiting beautiful work made from paper. It was a gorgeous day out as the German market was there.

These are a few photos of my favourites from the exhibition.

The Applied Arts crew mooching round the market and having dinner!

First ever craft fair!...

Last weekend was mine and Jess Langford's first ever craft fair in the studio, Hartlepool.

It was an amazing weekend and great experience. Will definitely be doing more!

It felt great to be selling our products and give us a taste of what life will be like after uni when we finish in June!

Check out Jess's blog...

Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover

Exhibition, 17 Claypath, Durham.

After finishing our minor brief at uni our class BA Honours Applied Arts for Enterprise exhibited our work. Our brief was based on the title of our dissertation's and had to be a conceptual piece based on the theme 'artists book'. Everybody took a different approach to the brief and had various dissertation titles so everybody's were different.

My work was about Autism and I made two ceramic vessels similar on the outside with different stamped words on the inside. The concept was everybody is human and looks the same on the outside but inside are very different. People with Autism don't understand social interaction and other traits which gets them confused with ignorance.

Materials; stoneware clay and copper
Techniques; Coil building, letter stamping, pattination

Theresa Easton who visited our exhibition wrote a blog post about it, check it out...

Friends of mine who's business is called The Factoree have organised this event which will be in Hartlepool and will be AMAZING! I love the ethics of The Factoree as they believe in 100% handmade products. Can't wait to start putting together my final pieces which each will be unique and gorgeous! Also can't wait to see everybody elses hard work and lovely handmade products!

It's been a whileeee...

since i last posted! Been busy getting back at uni finding out our new projects!
This project has an interesting yet difficult twist which is taking your dissertation and making and 'artists book' based on the theme of your dissertation.

My dissertation title is 'Art therapies for people with autism and aspersers syndrome'
Taking an academic topic and making something creative which needs strong concept hasn't been easy but for now i'm just playing around.

I WELCOME YOU MY NEW BAY! Not as cluttered as previous years(for me anyway!) but no doubt will be full of inspiration when i find some...
Keep a look out for new posts on my development throughout the project and hopefully some exciting posts on ideas for my final major project!
